Health coverage in California continued to grow in 2015. Most of that growth happened under the regulatory oversight of the Department of Managed Health Care which now regulates 95% of all commercial and public health care coverage.
While CAHP and its member plans worked diligently with the state to find a replacement for our state’s Managed Care Organization tax, the Legislature passed a slew of new bills requiring a multitude of changes and adjustments for plans and our relationships with providers.
The Department of Managed Health Care is moving forward with a host of new regulations and guidance on new laws like provider directories, network reviews, large group premium disclosure and much more.
The Department of Health Care Services continues to roll out new initiatives for managed care plans, which now serve over 70% of the 14 million Medi-Cal lives. Such initiatives include Whole Person Care pilots, Health Homes, program updates to the Coordinated Care Initiative, enrollment of children regardless of immigration status, and changes to the delivery of services under California Children’s Services (CCS).
Covered California continues to push for affordable coverage while demanding more from its Qualified Health Plans.
